Fishing the Snowies

The Snowies is a large area and can be divided into the Jindabyne, Eucumbene, Monaro, Upper Murray and Cabramurra areas. In these areas there are towns that offer all the services you need to enjoy your adventure as well as some great camping options. Our mountain streams offer clear cool water, perfect trout conditions and our lake systems offer great bank and boat fishing as well. Whether you enjoy tiny creeks or larger rivers, the Snowy Mountains have it all.

The river systems offer anglers all types of challenges from tiny creeks to fast flowing snow-melt rivers. There are areas where you can camp and spend days on end investigating waters that rarely see anglers or venture out for a quick cast right beside a road or track.

The Thredbo River offers a range of options, with easy access for the beginner fly fisher, and endless pondages for the more experienced flyfisherman who wants to really experience the solitude of flyfishing up river in the High Country.

Family Friendly

There is excellent access for families to enjoy their fishing off the lake bank with hundreds of kilometres and plenty of boat ramps to get to those secluded spots. Many areas offer camping and picnic facilities.

Fish Stocking

There is a stocking program in the area to ensure good numbers of fish are available and this is done by the Monaro Acclimatising Society (MAS) and the Jindabyne Trout Society (JTS).Fish Stocking
